The course introduces basics of sketching and variety of styles and techniques typical for this artistic domain.

Participant of the course will learn basic principles of sketching, can navigate different art techniques and materials and is able to practice independently.

From Monday to Friday

11:30 – 12:00 Coffee break
12:00 – 13:30 Lessons

Day 1.
Meet and greet. Basic principles of sketching. Work with composition and object prioritization. Introduction to different materials and techniques. Practical workshop in black and white technique. Independent work assignment.
Day 2. Home assignments review. Botanic illustration basics, decorative illustration and colour theory. Finding inspirational forms, angles and selecting right colour palette. Independent work assignment.
Day 3. Home assignments review. Let’s get outside! Urban sketching fundamentals, finding the right angle and setting “the mood”. Practical “no eraser” workshop with ink, markers and pens. Learning about perspective, architecture and rythm. Independent work assignment.
Day 4. Home assignments review. Landscape sketching en plein air. Working with colour, learning about 100 shades of green and natural light. Practical workshop with watercolours and colour pencils. Independent work assignment.
Day 5. Home assignments review. Human body, work with light and shapes and basics of anatomy. Practical class of pencil sketching with model. Sets of 1-minute, 5-minute, 15-minute and 30-minute sketches. Wrapping up the course.


The course is open to anyone willing to start drawing, overcome art-block and to try something new.

No previous experience with drawing needed. No limits for art materials, we will make everything work: starting with office pencil and pen and up to the fancy watercolour and acrylic kits.
